Global Citizens are Required!

Societies have emerged from the old way of life to the brand new fascinating life once technology is able to connect people worldwide. People are now aware that the world is an increasingly complex web of connection and interdependence. It means that our choices, decisions and actions will affect local and international environment. Regarding that statement, it can be said that people around the world are global citizens. 

Unfortunately, many people do not have enough awareness about what is actually going on and happening around them because they are too busy with their routines. As a global citizen, we need to be aware of global environmental issues, social issues, and educational issues. It does not matter how old you are, what grade you are, what professions you have, how much money you earn every month, what language you speak, what nationalities you have, we all can be in one page and we can start doing real actions for the better world.

Learning to be a  global citizen can be started right where we are. By joined AIESEC Global Volunteer program I learned to become a good global citizen. I am so excited and I was in disbelief when I get accepted for health & care project because all of them are university students, doctors and I am the only one a high school student. It's such an honor. I learned many things and met new friends. We can share what we had and learned from the doctors about health.

There are also some hard times when my project was delayed for 2 weeks, the schedules are changed but we just had fun and travelled around with my friends in the project. I believe that there is nothing called bad experiences. It’s always a matter of perspective.

The most important thing as a global citizen is to do a real action. I believed we can make a better world from young people first. We do not need to go overseas first to observe the global issues. Every action that we take in our country also will affect the whole world. We can visit social foundations in our local area and do community service and something related to social issues.

Awareness on the importance of becoming a global citizen is significant because distance is no longer problem, communication can be done in an instant, news can spread out in a second, and travelling is borderless. So, as young generation, we need to be aware with the global issues because we can learn any of them trough the vast sophisticated technology. We have to save our generation because every little thing matters to the world. Everything we do will affect the future global development. It leads to our investment to global environment. Let’s make a world where we can all be proud of. The world needs you. Will you take an action?
